“CES, Inc. has helped us implement a ten-year plan to decrease the campus’ impact on the Orono wastewater treatment plant. Their ongoing efforts have been wonderful.”
- David Trefethen Associate Director for Engineering University of Maine

Secondary ClarifierMunicipal wastewater is mostly generated from residences, businesses, industries, and institutions. Therefore, it is not uncommon for municipalities to place limits on wastewater that may be generated by requiring Wastewater Pretreatment before it is discharged into the conveyance system. These limits may include temperature, or content of metals, minerals, nutrients, oil, and grease. CES, Inc. can serve as a consultant and/or assist in designing proper systems that can help meet imposed discharge limits.
Sanitary / Storm Sewer SeparationProper design and maintenance of water and wastewater systems is crucial. Pump stations and pipelines need to be evaluated regularly to ensure that they are working correctly, with no excessive leakage or corrosion. Older municipal wastewater systems may still include storm water runoff. There has been a concerted effort to separate storm water and wastewater systems, because excessive storm water inflow may cause wastewater conveyance systems to overflow and contaminate surrounding bodies of water. We are skilled in evaluating the condition of existing systems, as well as designing system separation and the reconstruction of underground utilities and pump stations.
Municipal water and wastewater treatment systems are complex in design, and can vary in size or type depending on the needs of the municipality. Often, the needs of the community change and an existing treatment plant must be redesigned to fill those needs.
