Our History

CES, Inc. was founded in 1978 by Shawn Small, P.E. and Jim Parker, P.E., who had been classmates at the University of Maine and worked together at a local engineering and surveying company. They made a commitment to provide clients with high quality, cost-effective technical services.

In order to expand service offerings, we acquired Timberline Land Surveying, Inc. in 1989. To better serve eastern and northern Maine, we acquired Huntley Surveying & Engineering and opened an office in Machias in 1996, and opened offices in Fort Fairfield in 1997 and Southwest Harbor in 2001. In 2004, our range of services expanded to include Land Use Planning, followed by Industrial Engineering in 2005. In 2007, we moved our Fort Fairfield office to Presque Isle to better serve our Northern Maine clients.  In 2010, we opened a new office in Auburn, Maine so we may better serve our growing list of clients in southern and western regions of the State.

To support this growth, CES, Inc. has steadily increased its staffing to over 60 highly qualified personnel today, including registered professional engineers, a certified geologist, licensed land surveyors, licensed site evaluators, certified environmental inspectors, wetland and soil scientists, planners, experienced CAD operators, technicians and drafters, as well as clerical and administrative personnel. Company direction and policy is guided through a Board of Directors comprised of owners and senior personnel.
