Hawk Ridge Compost Facility

CES has provided environmental monitoring, engineering, and general consulting services to the New England Organics - Hawk Ridge Compost Facility since 1990. Specifically, past and current services include ground water and surface water monitoring, routine reporting of data to NEO and MDEP, project oversight for the installation and closing of site monitoring wells, working with NEO and MDEP staff in order to meet State requirements, preparation of several environmental monitoring plans, storm water related monitoring and reporting, and consultation and evaluation of a number of facility projects.

In addition, CES has designed and inspected a major storage pad expansion at the facility.  This project included MDEP pre-construction meetings, design and plan preparation, site survey and layout, and construction inspection of a 5.5 acre compost storage pad expansion.

One of the most important aspects of the services CES provides to NEO is the management of the continuing ground water and surface water monitoring programs.  This monitoring is a requirement of the operation of the facility and is critical in terms of evaluating site conditions.  As part of this program, an annual report of the ground and surface water data is required.  This report requires that data be statistically analyzed in order to determine trends and to compare data between sampling locations.  For each routine monitoring event, data reports are also prepared and submitted and data is required to be transferred electronically in order to meet specific MDEP deadlines for reporting of data.

Currently, CES is also assisting in an evaluation study of ground water and storm water runoff at the facility.  This project includes monitoring of GeoProbes and monitoring wells located around the facility, site preparation of multiple storm water sampling locations, storm projection and sampling setup, project oversight of all monitoring activities including field and analytical testing services, and evaluation and reporting of data.
