What Our Clients Are Saying
"Throughout our association with CES, we have come to rely on their expertise and professionalism. They are quick to respond to our questions, and thorough in their response. On occasion, they have been present at meetings we have had with the DEP, both on site and off; they have consistently represented us with confidence and with a depth of knowledge that we have come to depend upon and respect."

There are an enormous number of EPA and DEP regulations, and it is common for facilities to have difficulty keeping up with changes and knowing what applies. RCRA, CERCLA, NEPA, EPCRA, NPDES, SLODA, and NRPA are just a small listing of acronyms for Federal and State environmental acts with which many municipalities and industries need to comply. One method to ensure that you are in compliance with these regulations is to either conduct a self-audit or retain a third party to conduct an Environmental Audit. We have conducted over 40 Environmental Compliance Audits for clients in Maine. During an audit, we provide training for those of our clients’ personnel who are responsible for compliance with these rules and for fulfilling reporting requirements.
Pollution Prevention Plans are required by both DEP and EPA for certain activities and for storage/handling of substances that have the potential to damage the environment. Storm Water discharge, petroleum products, hazardous materials and toxins are examples of substances that may require Pollution Prevention Plans, depending on your activity and the quantity of substances stored. We have been preparing Pollution Prevention Plans for Maine municipalities, institutions, and industries for over 20 years.
Properly prepared and implemented, these plans will not only satisfy regulatory requirements, but will also provide clients with a useful tool to minimize both potential cleanup costs and future liabilities. Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures (SPCC) Plans, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Hazardous Waste Contingency Plans, and Integrated Contingency Plans (ICP) are typical Pollution Prevention Plans.
According to the EPA, a Facility Response Plan (FRP) is a “plan for responding, to the maximum extent practicable, to a worst case discharge of oil and to a substantial threat of such a discharge. The Plan also includes responding to small and medium discharges as appropriate.” Oil can be categorized as any material ranging from diesel fuel and asphalt to vegetable oils and animal fats. CES is able to advise you on whether your facility needs an FRP and can complete your Plan to address the requirements of 40 CFR Part 112.20. FRPs are then submitted to the EPA Regional Administrator for review and approval.
